Safety Manager’s Authority and Responsibilities
The Safety Manager (SM) derives authority and is directly responsible to the Accountable Manager. The SM is the focal point for the operator’s accident prevention and flight safety program and will represent the operator on flight safety issues. The SM is required to liaise with external Flight Safety advisors as necessary and will ensure two-way communication for all aspects of flight safety and encourage full and frank reporting; prompt resolution and effective actions. The SM is also responsible for the development, management, administration and maintenance of the Safety Management System (SMS) programme. The appointee needs to be notified to the relevant Aviation Authority responsible for the aircraft registration (the “Competent Authority”).
